EDT, a vehicle crashed into the train near LaPorte County roads 700 North and 900 East, according to spokesman John Parsons of the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District.Parsons said that's between Hudson Lake and New Carlisle, near the St.

The accident happened when driver Cole Badzinski, headed north, slid on the roadway while approaching the tracks, according to a preliminary investigation by the LaPorte County Sheriff's Department.

Badzinski collided with the westbound train on the south side before coming to a rest.Officials say Ashcraft died of massive trauma at the scene of the crash.

- A Massachusetts man is recovering from a snowmobile crash and 25-foot fall in Whitefield, N.H.

Authorities say 51-year-old Philip Sharpe of Framingham was on a trail that runs along railroad tracks Saturday afternoon when one of his snowmobile's skis caught in the tracks.

The snowmobile flipped over, and Sharpe slipped through a gap in the trestle onto the frozen Johns River about 25 feet below.The man was taken to Weeks Memorial Hospital and then later flown to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.---Information from: New Hampshire Union Leader, ">

Seattle buyer returns 1919 car to France

A Seattle man who paid nearly $1 million for a historic and rare car has agreed to return it to France, where it's considered a national monument.Charles Morse entered into an agreement with federal prosecutors this week to return the 1919 Turcat-Mery roadster, built for a duke who was a descendant of Louis XVI.

Morse will keep the car there or sell it to someone who will, and he hopes to find a buyer in the next few days at a car show in Paris.In 1991 the French government declared the royal estate at Randan, with all of the goods stored there - including the car - to be historic monuments, meaning they could not be permanently removed from France.

In 2004, a seller of classic cars exported the roadster to the Netherlands, and from there sold it to Morse, a car buff who first saw it at an auto show.

Morse's lawyer, David Marshall, says his client didn't know the car was supposed to remain in France and is happy to return it now that he knows otherwise.

"La masse qui revient dans les caisses des collectivités locales, c'est près de 29 milliards, donc il faut trouver une recette fiscale de substitution", a déclaré Jacques Pélissard, président de l'Association des maires de France (AMF).

"La taxe professionnelle acquittée par les entreprises s'élève à près de 25 milliards d'euros", note pour sa part l'Association des maires des grandes villes de France (AMGVF) dans un communiqué.

With the prize a sponsored season in French Formula Three in a Renault-engined Alpine, Cevert was not about to let the opportunity pass him by.After impressing in the underperforming car, he was offered a works drive by Alpine for ’68 but turned it down in favour of more competitive Tecno machinery.

He made the step up to Formula Two with Tecno the following year, finishing the series in third after one win, and made his Grand Prix debut in the F2 class in Germany.In 1970 he stayed with Tecno and simultaneously raced Matra sports cars, but by that point he’d already come to the attention of world champion Jackie Stewart, who had seen real potential in the Frenchman.

The podium was a second place behind Stewart after starting seventh at the French Grand Prix; the fastest lap was around the original, treacherous Nurburgring, where he was also runner-up to his team mate; and the win was at the season finale at Watkins Glen in the US.

And as the Scot wrapped up his third drivers’ title in 1973, Cevert was never far behind, the duo enjoying three one-two finishes over the course of the season.
